Storage still full after deleting photos: what to do
A common story: you delete hundreds of photos and your phone still says storage is full. The space is almost always taken by something on this list.
1. Photos are still in Recently Deleted
Deleted photos stay in Recently Deleted for 30 days (on Android — the gallery or Google Photos trash) and still take up space. Empty it: Select → Delete All.
2. Storage has not been recalculated yet
Settings → General → iPhone Storage does not update instantly. Wait a few minutes or restart the phone for accurate numbers.
3. iCloud optimization re-downloads originals
With Optimize iPhone Storage on, the iPhone keeps smaller copies and decides what to download. Browsing old photos can pull originals back. That is normal: when space runs low, iOS removes them again.
4. Messengers are taking the space
Telegram cache and WhatsApp media easily take tens of gigabytes and do not count as Photos. See how to free up storage on iPhone.
5. System Data has grown
iOS caches and temporary files land in System Data. It usually shrinks after a restart or an iOS update.
6. Messages attachments
Photos and videos from conversations are stored separately from your library. Check iPhone Storage → Messages → Review Large Attachments.
7. You deleted too little of the heavy stuff
A hundred photos is a few hundred megabytes; one long video can weigh more. Start with videos: how to find large videos. The quickest way is to swipe through them in Nixo — the app shows how much space you freed.
Free up space in a couple of minutes
Nixo shows your library one photo at a time: swipe left to delete, right to keep. Videos and screenshots have their own filters, and everything is processed on your phone.
